Introduction

Since the day I graduated from "Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine (Çapa)" in 1995, I have viewed surgery not merely as a treatment method, but as a discipline of utmost precision. Throughout my extensive academic journey, I have held numerous administrative and scientific roles, including serving as the "Head of the Department of General Surgery at Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Medicine". Having taken pride in performing thousands of surgeries and training hundreds of medical students and dozens of surgical specialists, I now continue to offer healing to my patients at "Meddem Hospital".
My passion for my profession is embodied in "turkcerrahi.com", Turkey’s most comprehensive surgical portal which I founded on the belief that knowledge grows when shared, and in the surgical textbook I authored. For me, every case is a fresh responsibility where academic expertise meets artistic meticulousness.
My Surgical Philosophy
I believe that when choosing a surgeon, a patient seeks more than just "skill"—they seek a "vision." The core principles that define my surgical approach are:
- Architect, Engineer, and Craftsman: A successful surgical outcome is akin to constructing a masterpiece. I approach every operation first as an architect to plan the treatment, then as an engineer to calculate every detail, and finally as a craftsman to execute the procedure with precision. Relying on manual dexterity alone is not enough; acting under the guidance of science and strategic planning is essential.
- Rolex-Level Precision: I believe performing surgery with the delicacy of "repairing a Rolex watch" yields far superior results than a heavy-handed approach. This microscopic care and profound respect for the human body is the key to the healing process.
- Treating the Person, Not the Test Result: On the operating table lies a "human being," not just a scan or a laboratory report. Focusing on the whole person rather than isolated parts is the key to truly resolving a patient's problem.
- Safety First, Comfort Always: I advocate for laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery because it allows my patients to recover faster. However, "surgical safety" is my paramount priority. I never compromise on the principle of using technology solely for the patient's benefit and in the safest possible manner.
- No "Hide and Seek" with Complications: Honesty and diligent follow-up are vital in surgery. The cornerstone of my professional ethics is to identify and resolve any issue swiftly and transparently, rather than letting a problem catch us off guard.
Areas of Expertise and Surgical Approach
1. Laparoscopic (Minimally Invasive) Surgery: Advanced Technology & Rapid Recovery
Utilizing advanced technological infrastructure (vessel sealing devices and staplers), we minimize tissue trauma and ensure our patients return to their social lives as quickly as possible.
- Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (Gallbladder) 1. / 2.
- Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair
- Laparoscopic Incisional Hernia Repair
- Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (Reflux Surgery)
- Laparoscopic Diaphragmatic Hernia Repair
2. Gastroenterological Surgery (Digestive System)
In the complex structure of the digestive system, we operate with the precision of a "watchmaker" without compromising oncological principles.
- Colorectal Surgery: Colon and rectal cancers.
- Biliary Tract Surgery: Complex diseases of the liver and bile ducts.
- Pancreatic Surgery: Pancreatic cancer and pseudocysts.
- Hydatid Cyst (Liver)
- Gastric Cancer and Upper GI Operations:
3. Endocrine Surgery
- Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery: Total thyroidectomy with nerve preservation and focused parathyroid surgery.

- Hormonal Tumors of the Pancreas: Surgical treatment of Insulinomas and other Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET).
4. Anorectal Surgery
- Anal Fissure and Fistula
- Hemorrhoids and Rectal Mucosal Prolapse: Hemorrhoidectomies and Longo hemorrhoidopexy.

Our Collaborative Advantage: Dynamic Tumor Board
We make a difference with the **Tumor Board** that we established and personally lead within Meddem Hospital.
How We Work: For every necessary case, we convene every morning at 10:45 AM with experts from Oncology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Surgery. This dynamic board, which can organize within hours, determines the most accurate treatment plan through collective wisdom.
Surgical Inventory and Safety
To minimize the margin of error, we extensively utilize modern surgical technologies:
- Vessel Sealing and Ligation Devices: The highest level of safety in hemorrhage control.
- Advanced Staplers: Secure, leak-proof technology for gastric and intestinal anastomoses.
Academic Legacy
For me, being a surgeon does not end in the operating room. I share my 30 years of professional experience with Turkey (see: turkcerrahi.com) and the world through the power of digitalization (see: turkcerrahi.com/en).
Why an Academic Career?
Throughout my tenure as Head of the Department, I have always been aware that the number of patients I can personally touch is limited. However, I know that by transferring my experience to young surgeons and medical students, the benefit increases exponentially.
turkcerrahi.com: Turkey’s Digital Surgical Library
By founding Turkey’s most comprehensive general surgery portal, I have brought complex surgical processes to the digital world in a clear and lucid language.
Surgical Textbooks and Visual Learning

In my works for medical students and surgical residents, I have demystified complex operative techniques through my own custom illustrations and plain language. My goal is to enable a surgeon I have never met to use my experience to lead a patient toward a healthier future.
